Backyard Burgers

After a whole afternoon of being alone and cleaning our home, I requested (forced maybe!) my husband to treat me for dinner. I asked him if we can try Backyard Burgers because we have been planning to eat in this place for many months now and he gladly obliged. We visited their place in Ecoland phase one near SM City Davao.

It only took us few minutes of waiting before having our home- made grilled burgers.

BB Yard Cheesy Bacon Burger for Php 140
BB Yard Cheesy Steak Burger for Php 145

A platter of Fries and Onion Rings for Php 100

                                                                  Onion Rings are so good!

And in addition, their grilling station is clean.
BB's burgers are tasty and delish unfortunately though my gurls are not ready for their burgers (maybe in few more years we can bring them to this place). After eating, just don't forget to hit the gym or run!

Have you been in this place? Feedback, anyone?

Au Revoir, until the next gastronomic adventure!

21 October, 2012

Oh October!

Nowadays, the month of October might be popular for Oktoberfest or Rockfest. However, October is not just limited to the beer festivals, moreover, it actually offers a lot of celebrations such as these:

For Catholics, it is the month of the Holy Rosary. In praying the Holy Rosary, we meditate on the joy, sorrow and glory of Jesus and Mary. In addition, it also reminds us of the beautiful story of our salvation.

The month of October every year is also the National Children's Month and the theme for this year's celebration is "Bright child ay Siguraduhin, Responsableng Pamamahayag ay Palaganapin". The celebration aims to promote and protect the physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being of the Filipino children. It also gives emphasis on the role of media in protecting the children's rights.

For women's organization like the Talika, October 5 is a special day against prostitution. I bought two shirts with very striking statements.

October 21, 2012 is not only an important day for the Catholic Church for having another saint but equally important for the Philippines for having our second Filipino Saint. Pedro Calungsod is the patron saint of the youth and of the migrant workers.

And for the Ateneo de Davao High School Community, we are celebrating the CLE [Christian Life Education] week on October 22 to 25. The focus of the celebration is awareness and alleviation of poverty and hunger especially among children which will be discussed through a symposium during CLE classes. Our culmination activity will be through the Feast of Fasting and Giving where students will be sharing their lunch money to help A1 scholars for their education. The pictures which I will be sharing are from Bro. Jeff Pioquinto, SJ and CLE SAC Neneng L. Pasilan.

Ateneas, Let us Stand... Take Action... and Support!

How about you, what do you celebrate in October?

first semester tidbits

Another semester has gone and every semester for the past four years has always been memorable. This semester has been quite extraordinary because after three years of being with the same community my class and I were assigned in a different place with a totally different context. But at the end of every community immersion, we were bringing with us cherished experiences and insights not just as an individual but as a class. I am just so glad to be with my students as they experienced and appreciated the lives of the people in our partner community.

Captured memorable experiences in the community...

Going down this hill was quite challenging because it rained the day before but going up with a downpour was an extra challenge. I could not imagine how we were able to make it.

My shoes before the downpour and after.

My students were soaking wet and enjoying it.

In another purok, my students and i were surprised to realize that the community was demolished days before our second visit.

The semester has been an experience of all sort but my students' enthusiasm, participation and willingness to help assure me of a better, fun and experienced filled second semester.

See you in November!
